Recently researchers from the University of Ghent built a machine that turns urine into drinkable water using solar energy. The device collects urine in a tank, heating it using a solar powered boiler, which is then passed through a membrane, which separates out the water. The “peeforscience”team deployed the machine in a festival in Ghent where they were able to recover 1,000 litres of water from the urine of revellers. This water will be used to make beer.
